Samsung Galaxy S5 With New User Interface Unveiled

Samsung soon to be released flagship smartphone have been in the news for some time now. One of the information we already have is that the device will have a fingerprint scanner just like the iPhone 5S and will also feature two different casings; one with a metal casing and the other with aluminium casing.

Aside this, something new has reached us, which is a new redesigned TouchWiz user interface that would be coming with the new Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone aside with the 551PPI display that is rumoured to be slammed on the device.

The interface which is similar to that seen on the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro tablet (pictured above) will be ported into the Samsung Galaxy S5. This means that the icon set will change and the home screen will be more dynamic to show things that are more relevant to the user something akin to the Windows Phone design.

The screenshots shown below shows that Samsung is more about providing consumers with rapid information that they need more than ever.

Samsung Galaxy S5 may be released in March 2014, will pack in Android 4.4 KitKat and may come with a 3GB RAM.

We are yet to see all that Samsung Galaxy S5 has to offer but we know that more leakages and information will keep coming out until the day of official unveiling. Till then, be sure to stay with the site to get all the smartphone info you need.

Apples iMessage App For Android Surfaces On Play Store

Apples iMessage messaging service just got spotted on Google Play Store and its available for download for Android devices.

Like the name suggest, it allows you to send iMessages to not only Apple devices but also to other Android users that have the app installed.

This is actually surprising seeing that the app had been in the store since September 12th according to the information on Google Play Store. Not only that, there are reviews being written which suggests that the app is performing as intended.

Jay Freeman, creator of Cydia, a popular Hacker and Developer on the iOS platform has this to say

"as far as I can tell the way it works is that the client does directly connect to Apple, but the data is all processed on the developers server in China. This not only means that Apple cant just block them by IP address, but also that they get to keep the "secret sauce" on their servers (and potentially just run Apple code: there are some parts of the process in Apples client code that is highly obfuscated).

Every packet from Apple is forwarded to 222.77.191.206, which then sends back exactly what data to send to Apple (along with extra packets that I presume tell the client whats happening so it can update its UI). Likewise, if the client wants to send a message, it first talks to the third-party server, which returns what needs to be sent to Apple. The data is re-encrypted as part of this process, but its size is deterministically unaffected"

For now, some iPhone users are pissed and are wondering if there would be any law suit from Apple to the developer of the said app for using not only the name "iMessage" but the logo or to Google for permitting such app in the Play Store.

HTC One SV

HTC ONE SV REVIEW

The HTC One SV for Boost Mobile is an Android phone tailor-made for bargain hunters. you get a stylish handset with a bright screen and fast camera, plus access to a growing 4G LTE network (powered by Sprint). Measuring a wafer-thin 0.36 of an inch deep and 5 inches tall by 2.6 inches wide, the device is practically petite by todays gargantuan smartphone standards. The phone manages to tip the scales at a featherweight 4.3 ounces, too, making it a breeze to carry or slip into pockets. Of course the tradeoff is the One SVs smaller 4.3-inch (800x400-pixel) LCD display. It has a lower pixel count than the HD-resolution screens youll find on many high-end handsets. As a result text and images appear less sharp than I prefer and viewing angles are shallow. Even so, the display does get pretty bright. Above the screen is a long earpiece grille with five red dashes embedded within it that push the One SVs futuristic look even further. Here too is a 1.6 megapixel front-facing camera, while below the display are three capacitive and backlit keys, yes, red as well, for main Android operations. HTC kept ports and buttons at a minimum with just a Micro-USB connection on the handsets bottom lip, a thin volume bar on the right, and a 3.5mm headphone jack and power key up top. Around back live the One SVs 5-megapixel main camera, LED flash, and neon-red battery cover. The cover is thin but sports a soft-touch surface thats easy to grip and repels fingerprints. Underneath youll find an 1,800mAh removable battery, plus slots for SIM and microSD cards. Running the Android 4.04 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, the HTC One SV offers a modern software experience. Sure, its not the latest and most advanced operating system that has rolled off Googles assembly line, that being Android version 4.1/4.2 Jelly Bean. HTC has layered its own Sense 4.1 user interface on top of the OS, though. It boasts plenty of useful enhancements such as a lock screen with customizable quick-launch icons, special gesture controls, and browser tools. To unlock the device and jump to the home screen simply flick a virtual ring from the bottom of the screen upward. You can also choose from four icons (phone, e-mail, messages, and camera by default) to drag into the rings center, launching its associated function straight away. There are seven home screens at your disposal, too, which you can fill and tweak with widgets and shortcuts to applications. Dragging items on top of each other automatically creates folders to keep your screen layout tidy. HTCs gesture controls adds another twist. For example, instead of clumsily dragging application icons to the edge of the screen to place them on the next available home screen, just hold your finger down on a shortcut while swiping left or right. Doing so will cycle through screens until you locate an ideal spot to drop your favorite app or widget onto. Sense also natively supports multiple social-media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The upside of this integration is that the phone will scan your contacts list and suggest possible links among these services. You can view photos your friends have shared as well and see any recent updates theyve made within the People app. The HTC One SV is a true Android smartphone and with this pedigree comes support for all of Googles popular services such as Gmail, Google+, the Chrome browser, and the Google Play storefront. There youll find a wide selection of books, movies, music, and over 700,000 apps for download. The device supports corporate and personal e-mail accounts too, and the previously mentioned social networks. Useful third-party applications preloaded include the Dropbox file-sharing app and TuneIns Internet radio player. Like all conscientious wireless carriers, Cricket has thrown in its own grab bag of software, most of it of little value, such as a mobile Web app, Cricket Browser, and MyBackup, a contact-saving tool. Muve Music, however, is another story. The free Muve service essentially lets you search for and stream or download audio tracks right to your Cricket handset. In fact, the One SV comes with a special 4GB Muve microSD Card, 3GB of which is reserved for storing Muve tunes. Dont get any ideas, though; Muve music you download is encrypted and only playable on the phone. An added benefit of the re-jigged design is that you can easily remove the back cover of the HTC One SV which not only gives you access to the microSIM and microSD slots, but also the removable 1,800mAh battery – which has been given a slight bump to improve the life of the phone. The HTC One SV flaunts a thin, stylish look, a fast processor, and free Muve Music service.

AT T LG G Flex pre orders begin today shipped on Tuesday February 4th

AT&T LG G Flex pre-orders begin today, shipped on Tuesday, February 4th.

Posted  by New Cell Phones
LG G Flex is priced at $299 with a two year contract agreement on AT&T. Pre-orders open today online and official release date is set for February 4th. I really like the design of this phone.. Problem is I’ve never owned an LG phone so I’m very skeptical of the brand, I absolutely hate the back button idea, and the fact that it’s 720, no sd slot, and the input for the headphones is on the bottom of the phone (which really disturbs the crap out of me) I couldn’t see myself buying this phone. Samsung Is Doing Everything To Extinct BlackBerry

It is very clear by now that Blackberry is seriously grasping for breath in the smartphone market. All efforts to resuscitate the dying company is not yielding any significant fruit yet.

BlackBerry have been the device of choice for the US FBI agent for a while now.  One could say that its still one of the reasons Blackberry is still relevant in a way.  However, it seems that privilege is about to end soon with the steps that Samsung is taking with the FBI.

It had been reported that Samsung want to conclude a deal that would make the FBI with over 30,000 employees to ditch Blackberry devices for Samsung devices.

If this should happen, Blackberry would be in deep mess.

Once the FBI sees Samsung devices as the device of choice, it would mean bigger sales for the Korean company. All other agencies,  Navy, Airforce etc will follow sooth. Security agencies all over the world would believe that Samsung devices have all the security that is needed and that would further put Blackberry in a tight spot.

Blackberry being a company that is dying already, it would be like the final straw for them.  It is therefore very pertinent that Blackberry try everything in its power to maintain the relationship it has with the FBI and other security agencies that have selected their devices for use.

If Samsung closes this deal with the FBI, Blackberry is one step to extinction.

How To Browse The Internet for Free On Your Android Phone

Its not news that people are always looking for ways to browse for free on their Android devices given that exploitation from the telecoms are on the increase and always looking for ways to shell out cash form the customers pocket.

Well, there is a way to keep at least some part of these cash inside our pocket and that is with the help of droidvpn and it works with most networks (etisalat, airtel, glo and most importantly mtn).

Note 1: this has been tested on a SIM with active mtn bis and works fine. Therefore am to believe that it should work for other networks.

Procedures
1. Go to www.droidvpn.com and sign up, very easy.

2. Go to your email account you used to register droidvpn and click on the link to activate it

3. Go to Google Play Store and Download Droidvpn to your device.

4. Now launch Droidvpn you just downloaded, put your email and password and click on Save my login details

5. Go to Settings at the top right corner

6. Click on Connection Protocol and select UDP

7. Click on Port Settings and select Set UDP Port, enter 500

If UDP port doesnt work for you, select ICMP port instead of UDP port. This is because UDP port seem to be blocked. This was pointed out by my guy guy Kosi Afuba.

8. If your MTN bis is active and the APN is at Blackberry.net you would have no problem.

9. Start your free browsing by clicking on the ON button shown in the first image above.

You have at least 100mb data per day.

Please drop comments if this works for you and lets know the network it worked for and the protocol you used. If you have any problem, you can drop them as comment and I will try to respond to them. Please let your questions be more detailed.

BlackBerry Torch 9860

BLACKBERRY TORCH 9860 REVIEW

BlackBerry may have had a bit of a setback lately with the whole “outage” issue but that hasn’t really stopped them from pushing the sales of their new products. One of the latest devices to make it out of the Canadian manufacturer’s domain is the totally-touchscreen enabled BlackBerry Torch 9860. Here’s a closer look at the device that might just help you decide if it’s worth your while. Being a touch model and offering a large 3.7-inch display mean that the screen has to be good. It offers you resolution of 800 x 400 pixels, making it comparable to a number of Android and Windows Phone 7 devices. One thing is clear here: BlackBerry has figured out that people do care about specs. With 3.7-inches of screen on offer video certainly comes to the fore. Despite the very obvious omission of Flash video support limiting your consumption of common online video, we found that local content was handled nicely. HD media from the memory card was delivered smoothly, so if you happen to have a stack of MPEG4 movies, then youll be able to easily enjoy them on your phone. There is no sign of DLNA support however. The 5-megapixel camera on the rear of the device is supported by an LED flash, suffering from the usual shortcomings youd expect from a phone. Low light shots arent great, but in good light, the Torch 9860 will give you reasonable results. Being an autofocus camera, youll get nice sharp images. It does lack some excitement though, not offering anything by the way of effects. Video is also impressive, churning out good quality 720p footage at 30fps. Again, during video filming youll find that you get continuous autofocus, so we dont have much to complain about. Plug in a set of reasonable third-party headphones and youll find that the BB Torch 9860 sounds sweet. The external speaker also provides good quality and volume, be that for sharing your tunes at the bus stop or that ad hoc conference call in your hotel room. The biggest change, however, is the browser. BlackBerry knew they had to improve it, and it really has done. It is now much faster than previously, so straight website browsing is a pleasure, with pages quick to load. However, it isnt without problems. Weve already mentioned that we experienced a lot of lock-ups when using the browser and this is a problem compounded by one of the other issues that faces the Torch 9860 and BB7 devices: apps. Without dedicated apps, youll spend more time using the browser to access those services, or that information, to get what you need. Although BlackBerry has BBC iPlayer, Spotify, eBay, Skype apps, for example, they arent available for the Torch 9860. Head to the BBC iPlayer website and youll get the standard "Your phone isnt supported" message. In terms of battery stamina, the Torch 9860 turns in a pretty average performance. Youll get around a days worth of usage on a single charge, although frugal behaviour will eke out perhaps another half day. We really like the Torch 9860. If you’re a fan of BlackBerry OS but have always wanted a touchscreen, this is the smartphone for you.

Samsung Will Be The First To Release Curved Displays

Samsung is gearing up to be the first to release a curved display for smartphones come October this year.
This plan was initially revealed in Seoul during the launch of Galaxy Note 3 and it does seem that its going to materialize sooner than expected.

Although, Samsung is not the only company looking into releasing curve display technology, LG which is a long time rival of Samsung also have plans to mass produce both curve and flexible displays for smartphones by the end of 2013.

It is important not to confuse curve screen with flexible screen which Nokia showed a year ago in the Nokia Kinetic programme.

What we do know is  that curved displays will debut on Samsung devices next month but flexible displays are not expected anytime soon.

In the meanwhile, you can smile at the revealing of Samsungs gold S4 (pictured above) that is ready for purchase soon which is definitely a reply to Apples gold iPhone 5S.
